Ok, this should be taken care of...

There was a pointer that was not being initialized, but was working as a 
side effect. When Ton added an =NULL to its declaration, the bad code was 
revealed. This also gave me an idea of where to detect edges that should not 
be slid due to missing 'rail' edges.
