Hi,

 Especially when modelling not rectangular shapes the only way to
 selected the wanted vertice is to first select "too much" vertice,
 turn the object and then deselect the superflous ones.

 For the selecting (LMB) task Blender offers a rectangular  and a circle
 shaped selecting tool.

 But for the DEselecting (RMB) task Blender offers only a rectangular
 shaped selecting tool.
 
 Since deselecting the not wanted vertice is a more delicate and more
 precise task as simply selecting "too much" vertice in the first
 round of editing of vertice it may be good to also be able to
 deselect vertice with the circle tool enable (RMB).
