Hi,

Official builds are with MSVC7, sorry for any confusion.

They had been VC6 up until the integration of the Yafray plugin. 
Differences in STL between compilers meant that Blender had to be built 
with the same compiler as the official Yafray build.

Regarding the scanline bug, I will check the compiler flag options in 
scons to see if this can be solved easily.

Peter, please also report any success you have in this area! ;)
