All that you see in there that seems "informational" actually are the
settings inside the Nvida Card, you change those files (with any text
editor) and you are changing the settings on the fly, no need to
restart, changes go straight into the card's GPU and take place
inmediately.

Please note that when I talked about the *hack*, the main idea is that
by reading the /proc/ system Blender can tell for sure who the card is
configured.. and them Blender can adapt it's own behavior to better suit
that configuration...

On a second thought, yes, changing the systems settings could be a
little bit too bold, but it can be done... all it takes a is a popup
asking for the root password... but I agree, since it is something so
simple, a note in the console should be enough.

Even more, since we are not talking about actually changing the system
configuration, just checking how it is configurated... Blender can read
in both the /proc/drivers and in /etc/x11/XFree86.conf  for
"troublesome" configuration settings and issue a console warning to the
user.  No "root" password is needed to read those files.
