Hi,

sunday May 25, 16-18 CEST (-6 US east, -9 US west)
irc.freenode.net, #bendercoders

Special OSX session

1. general osx blender experiences,
2. python
3. ghost
4. uv editor
5. audio
6. 3delight and external render
7. Tracker bugs

---- General experience

- blender could be faster for OSX. It seems that Aqua reserves quite
some of the 3d card opengl power. Nevertheless, putting the screen gfx
at 12 bits (System Preferences -> Displays -> thousands of colours)
makes it run quite some faster. Should be put in the readme!
- running blender full screen (window-less) still gives a proper
cursor, and could be used as a preference setting for OSX. We'll have
to solve the render-window output then. (see feature proposal below)
- suggestion for new startup of Blender: at 1024x768 if the screen is
equal/larger than that, otherwise screen size (with subtraction of
space for top menu and dock).
- most annyong bug: the flickering of vertex paint, face-select and the
kind

----- ghost
- kattkieru points to the Allegro Game library, The binaries generated
by it can be run from the command line and they get keyboard / mouse
input, unlike blender does now. Ghost coders could look at Allegro
window handling, to copy that to blender as well.

--- quicktime codecs & saving in blender
- phase mentions that the quicktime outputcodec dialog freezes blender

--- UV editing bug
Ton volunteers to look at this again... keep tuned!

----- feature proposal
New render output option: an old concept was to add a third display
option that uses the current ImageWindow for displaying a render in
process. It can work like a fileselect, with the current active window
changing temporally, and returning to old state with ESC or toggling
display with F11. Added benefits are zooming and panning.
Disadvantage is lose of color depth (12 or 15 bits) since it is double
buffered.
Coders interested in programming this, can contact Ton for hints & tips
for a good integration.

------ rest of meeting topics
Unfortunately the attendants were OSX users, and not experienced OSX
coders. This is still a call for participation of more people. Not only
for integration, but also to upgrade the docs for how to get it
compiling, making a tarball with external libs available, etc.

Next meeting: tomorrow, 16-18h CEST (-6 NY, -9 LA, +8 Sydney)
