Hi,

 May be an overwrite-warning for every write action available in
 blender is a useful and helpful thing ?

 Especially pressing "ANIM" in the render button window or pressing
 the according hotkey should warn about overwriting an already
 existing file -- since this file may be the result of hours of
 calculation  vanishing in hundredth of a second forever ;)

 Not only once I have pressed ANIM instead of PLAY after some hours of
 waiting for my new animation. Ok, my fault....but....

 Keep hacking!
