Try setting option AGPMode in your XF86Config-4 file.  Set it to whatever is 
configured in your bios, ie if you have agp 4x put 4 there.

This is mine:

You can find out what modes are supported with 
lspci -vv

Look for your card entry.
This is mine.  The important part is the Rate=x1,x2 bit.
