The DoF distance should be in the node as you do not need a camera to
have zbuffer data, and anyway jumping between 3d and nodes is rather
slow.

Also, 9 blades are possible in reality and in Blender, see links:

BTW, the image shows there is a weird horizontal line, it happens with
any polygon.
