Hi Angela
Adding a called for section of 9.2, 6.7, based on sections from the
Specification doc.
(Please respond from minusplus or others with comments!)
Uni-Verse tools and Verse protocol will be tested in an Architect
demonstrator based on a case study. The test scenario incorporates
presentations of the capabilities of the modelling and the presentation
tools of the Uni-Verse platform to architect and design practices.
The context in the demonstrator is a model of a building for a
Government Office. There is a central hall, some office rooms and other
localities. The user can walk around in the virtual environment and see
it and experience the acoustics of the different rooms. The modelled
world is living on a Verse-server and can at any time be visualized or
auralized by Verse enabled tools.
The user in this case is a wide group of architectural and design
practices, with qualified personnel for the preparatory work and
presentators with moderate need of technical knowledge.
The user is experiencing the system through 3DS Max which is enhanced
with a Verse plugin. He/she can view the model via a Verse renderer and
evaluate the acoustics by listening through the UVAS subsystem.
We will use the system in initial design phases and more finished client
presentation phases.
The demonstrator is focused on a concept of a collaboration-based
environment. Architecture and design is no longer a one-man project. A
large number of cultural, technical, financial and design experts work
on architectural projects at the same time.
* *This will be in contrast to traditional architectural modeling for
big structures done by modeling a variously detailed exterior (or just a
mass) and some interesting interiors - often using different models for
different parts, modeled for certain selected views, which don’t build
up to a coherent walkable structure*. *The aim usually is to give an
overall view, with some accented details. However the importance is in
these accented details. It is indispensable to be able to demonstrate
the specific aspects of the project to a variety of collaborators and
spectators in correspondence with their needs.
