[Uni-verse] High end engine

Hi Eskil,

The implementation of the high end and the slim client are both parts of
workpackage 4. Looking into the proposal IGD is the workpackage leader,
having 18MM effort. KTH is the second partner in WP4 having 14MM effort. The
slim client must be finished until month 28. The first implementation of the
high end client must be finished until month 12 - the end version until
month 24.

Doing the specification we thought it would be a good idea if in the first
place everyone involved in the workpackage contributes the main parts he has
the best experience in. That is of course for the Verse communication part
You resp. KTH. For the visualization on thin clients it is our department.
For the visualization on high end systems somehow both of us have knowledge
available of course. So it is not said in the proposal that these two sub
workpackages have to be splitted and each of the involved institutions deals
with just one of them. The better idea in our opinion is, if we can do the
work in both parts together. As we have already a kind of high end
visualization available (OpenSG cluster rendering) here at IGD and as it is
our responsiblity to realize a radiosity module in WP 6 (which of course can
only be seen as a part of a high end visualizing system - not possible on
thin clients) it would be a good idea, if the workpackage can profit from
your experience of connection clients to verse and from our OpenSG
knowledge. So if we split the work correspondingly there is a good chance
for us all to reach these targets within time. But perhaps we can discuss
this in more detail on the upcoming meeting.
