Same problem with me too naturally everyone from Portugal, Spain and other latin countries suffer the same problem.
The best encoding for us would be (to my best knowledge - which isn't much I confess to be an amateur newbye") is # -*- coding: iso8859-15 -*-

But Spe does not support it. Unfortunately there are not many python editors there that I have enjoyed with supporting our characters. For example PythonWin does not display them correctly!

Spe would definetly be my favorite editor if it wasn't for this point. And it's specially bad that it saves the file empty without warning! In all honesty I must check if this latest version also erases files - but I'm pretty sure it as no support for latin chars. So we will just have to wait...

Anyway hats of to Stany because the editor/IDE is great in most aspects.
