<div class="moz-cite-prefix">Hi everyone,<br>
<br>
Sorry for the late response. It was a busy week for me.<br>
Anyway, as Peter said, in the current form, VSE is not ready for
the trunk. Some essential features like caching are missing, and
others are not very polished (like transformation) or buggy . <br>
I'm still dedicated to this project. However, it is hard for me
to find the time as you can see. Besides VSE, I'm also trying to
get Wilkins's GSoC to run on android. For VSE, I was experimenting
with buckets' dispatching. But nothing worth committing yet.
Also, I found a few shortcomings in effects/commands interfaces.
Sigh.<br>
The problem is that the new VSE cannot gradually replace the old
one as the drawing is handled very differently. We need to port
all core functionality first. (in addition I still need to do
clean up and bug fixing) Also, I would love to discuss with other
developers like Peter and Sergey future design targets and how to
integrate them into the new VSE. <br>
Another big problem is multithreading. And this problem is not
only bounded to VSE. (However ability to have a scene strip inside
a scene doesn't make it better.) Currently, Blender can only have
one global frame as animation update overwrites the stored values.
However, rendering frames ahead is important for OpenCL. I did
some hacks which work to some extent, but audio was a problem. <br>
I will have winter recess in January, so I will able to allocate
full time to this project. Hopefully, we will get some tangible
results.<br>
<br>
Regards,<br>
Alex<br>

<div dir="ltr">Hi Peter,

<div>yes I am the beta tester, I didn't speak on the mailing
list as I was in fairly frequent contact with Alex on IRC -
did you know there's a blender-vse channel on freenode?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I posted here at the request of Ton to get some sort of
status update made in public as there is a lack of momentum on
improving the VSE and Alex's project seems like a good
starting point to investigate from. I didn't realise that you
were the module owner, or is that historical now?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Ton put me and Sergey together for a chat at the conference
as in Amsterdam because I use the VSE as much as possible in
my professional work and am always pushing for it to move
forward but there does seem to be a few barriers to this and
there seems to be some thought that for the next foundation
project (gooseberry) that the VSE will be in heavy use. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>At this point I am just trying to ascertain what resources
are available to deploy in these efforts and from this what
sort of expectations can be raised. A long term design plan
would be great to have as it would give a roadmap to any devs
who are available for volunteer work to follow or for devs
assigned by the foundation / projects to implement so if
you're up for talking about that, wonderful. I guess the new
phabricator thing will be fully operational soon and maybe
that is the place to continue this...</div>
