<P>I'm at work, and had 1 hour of sleep last night ;P so I have no idea what I wrote previously... my site can deliver 40 gig/month. It seems to me, that I could safely take at least one video. How many people are downloading per month anyway? Tell me if I'm not realistic please.</P>

<DIV></DIV>>Hi Douglas,
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>ah! I hadn't thought of that yet. The only solution then is to find
<DIV></DIV>>some friendly mirror sites with FAT internet pipes!

<DIV></DIV>>>i would like a download link to everything which has a bit-torrent

<DIV></DIV>>>it has priority, and be easier to click etc... it migh just say
<DIV></DIV>>>"download" on it. but i would always like a real download location
<DIV></DIV>>>to get somthing from.
<DIV></DIV>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>why? because i live in a country where we have "limited
<DIV></DIV>>>bandwidth" we get 10Gb per month. and with bit-torrent i have
<DIV></DIV>>>found that it uses more bandwidth than the file you are
<DIV></DIV>>>downloading. a 400Mb file used 1.5Gb to download. it was uploading
<DIV></DIV>>>at 5Kbps and downloading at 25Kbps. this does not add up.
<DIV></DIV>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>i got the blender arts festival DVD sent via snail mail, why?
<DIV></DIV>>>because we only had Bit-torrent available.
<DIV></DIV>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>honestly its a huge hassle, and i am not the only one. perhaps
<DIV></DIV>>>when the entire world is on broadband with unlimited bandwith will

<DIV></DIV>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>just my opinion on the matter. (we are not yet ready for a

<DIV></DIV>>>>Hi Glen,
<DIV></DIV>>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>>personally, I'm not a big fan of popup windows but I see what
<DIV></DIV>>>>you're getting at. The current Typo3 templates that we use also do
<DIV></DIV>>>>not support popups, so I would favor an alternate solution. Do you
<DIV></DIV>>>>think it would be a problem to offer *only* bittorrent files? We
<DIV></DIV>>>>could have a good central page that explains BitTorrent on the
<DIV></DIV>>>>site anyway, since the new Conference Videos page
<DIV></DIV>>>>(http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Blender_Conference_Videos.481.0.html)
<DIV></DIV>>>>is also BitTorrent-only.
<DIV></DIV>>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>>I can help you to get started with the siteitems, but I would
<DIV></DIV>>>>prefer to do this online with you. Do you ever use IRC, or some
<DIV></DIV>>>>kind of instant messaging? We could use that to work on it. Before
<DIV></DIV>>>>we do so though, let's decide on which model to choose. How did
<DIV></DIV>>>>the suggestion I made the other day sound? (Combining the regular
<DIV></DIV>>>>and video tutorials by adding a new category for video tutos)

<DIV></DIV>>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>>>A ton of people have been downloading the video tutorials. The
<DIV></DIV>>>>>BitTorrent Tracker has been helping out a lot, but even with
<DIV></DIV>>>>>those the load was still too great for two of our community
<DIV></DIV>>>>>mirrors (not to mention both of my sites with a 5GB a day limit).
<DIV></DIV>>>>>I know that many people with BitTorrent have been downloading
<DIV></DIV>>>>>from our mirrors. I have a few ideas on how to convince
<DIV></DIV>>>>>downloaders to use bittorrent first.
<DIV></DIV>>>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>>>I'm considering having just the BitTorrent link on the
<DIV></DIV>>>>>description and then another link next to it for a non-bit
<DIV></DIV>>>>>torrent downlaod. Then it will bring up a pop-up page with a list
<DIV></DIV>>>>>of mirrors, their locations, and a notice saying that it is
<DIV></DIV>>>>>recommended to use BitTorrent, and where to get a client. Since a
<DIV></DIV>>>>>direct link to the mirror won't be on the main page that might
<DIV></DIV>>>>>help BitTorrent users for using a mirror just because it's
<DIV></DIV>>>>>faster. This is an idea, so tell me what you think.
<DIV></DIV>>>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>>>For now I'm going to limit the number of files that are linked to
<DIV></DIV>>>>>our limited bandwidth users and make sure the others are listed
<DIV></DIV>>>>>first. If that doesn't work than I'll have to remove the links to
<DIV></DIV>>>>>their sites just because one file could still take down the site
<DIV></DIV>>>>>(one video was responsible for 4 out of my 5 gigabyte limit, and
<DIV></DIV>>>>>it wasn't even listed as the first mirror). I don't want to just
<DIV></DIV>>>>>use BitTorrent because some people for hardware, firewall or
<DIV></DIV>>>>>other reasons just can't use it.
<DIV></DIV>>>>>
<DIV></DIV>>>>>I also want to redo the way the web page is designed. I tried to
<DIV></DIV>>>>>use the same method as the tutorial section uses but I don't know
<DIV></DIV>>>>>how to use site items. If someone can help me with that it would
<DIV></DIV>>>>>be appreciated. As far as my goals with this site is concerned I
<DIV></DIV>>>>>want to somehow unify the documentation, tutorial, and video
<DIV></DIV>>>>>tutorial projects. They have the same goal. It would be
<DIV></DIV>>>>>benificial to people using Blender if they can read a chapter in
<DIV></DIV>>>>>the documentation, and then have links to different tutorials and
<DIV></DIV>>>>>videos about the topic they just read. This is in a bit in the
<DIV></DIV>>>>>future but that is my goal with this project.
