Interesting such negative response.
first of all, this is optional, that dosnt justify its addition, just
that people who dont want it wont have to use it.
The Patch that was in the tracker only deals with numpad, Mine is fairly
easy to call from any view transformation in blender.
to justify the functionality its self
* Users should never have to wait for it to finish spinning the view.. -
Iv made sure of this by setting a number of milliseconds it can take.
* It could help people who dont understand 3d space as well to get an
idea of the model there editing. Iv seen a newbe be confused by blenders
orthograpic views, this may help.
* when dealing with a large scene that has objects of different sizes,
(a street of buildings and you zoom in on a mailbox for instance) - this
helps to give the model context when you zoom..
* Imagine your teaching blender to a class or giving a demonstration,
when navigating, this could help convey what your doing since they wont
know what keys your pressing.
* Even if this is a little bit eyecandy, its not necessarily a bad
thing. Try blender 2.25 and youll probably appreciate brokens work on
the UI. having an application 'feel' nice can attract users. take
blenders use of smooth lines and alpha menu's as an example.
* I spent some time last night using this and fond that after a while
you dont even notice its happening, (150ms a bit over a 10th of a
second) seems most usefull when viewing a small selection on a large
model. - but you do notice when its not there (numpad keys 2,4,8,9)
Also, Im not generally big into eyecandy, and half expected this to
annoy me but it didnt.
