What do you find engages kids? I am looking for new ideas. The
following have worked well for some of them:

1) model something that becomes physical through 3D printing:
Cups and trinkets like Pokemon balls are popular

2) make a video with CGI where they are personally in the scene.
For example, throw fireballs, green screen yourself into a 3D room
you created.

3) using the physics simulation engines for smoke / fire / water.
Lots of kids like lighting Suzanne (the monkey) on fire or making
her dance to music. Strange but true.

I like to look for what they end up doing with the tools once
they've been shown them to get insight.

I'd like to know what types of things others have found excites
students.
for
anyone who wants to see. Let me know
what you think. I'd like to trim
these down to just about 5 minutes,
but haven't had time to work on them
recently.

When I teach, I generally lead off
with the first two topics, then move
into either animation (03) or
modelling (04) depending on what
activity
the students will do. If we are doing
3D printing I head to 04. If we
are doing CGI I do 03. Right now I am
working on a set of videos that
will let the kids do CGI so they can
"throw fireballs". We're tracking
hands and using the particle system to
create the "magic fire".
I've using Blender for a decade and

else working with kids and Blender?
They seem to be pretty good at using
different skills to create a final
project. For example, I start them
out with a
interface. Then I have a number of
short ones on modeling, animation,
