[Bf-docboard] Confused by diagrams in "Environment Maps"

I am currently learning Blender and have found the Blender User Guide
very helpful. However I have found the diagrams in "Environment Maps"
a bit confusing and was wondering if there is an omission.

For example in Figure 22:
 http://www.blender.org/modules/documentation/htmlI/x4810.html#BSG.MAT.F.S68.402
The "Map Input" pane is shown twice, whereas I would have expected to
"Map To" pane would have been shown.
