Well, I'd say 600dpi (or even 1200dpi)

a quarter of an A4 is around 10x15cm or 4"x6"

so 600x4x600x6=8.640.000 pixels, at 24 bit per pixel is
an (uncompressed) 24.7Mb.... Good lossless compression
might do it down to 10Mb, yes.

Quadruple that at 1200dpi ;)
