Well, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Maya uses a magnet icon
for example. Yes there may be a tiny bit of initial confusion from
people who are used to other apps in which it's called magnet or
whatever, but seeing the name in the tooltip and the new menu next to
it should be pretty self-explanatory I'd hope.
I personally think that magnet is a better metaphor for snapping
anyway, regardless of what other apps use :) Proportional edit
doesn't really make your vertices etc stick to anything like a magnet
does, it just pulls them around like they're attached to each other.
