There have been quite a few mentions on the list of 32 character
restriction for names being something that people would like to see changed.
We here at CanDo regularly have object names that have over 40
characters, as ( in games ) we use tags for processing the objects ( eg
the two tags _ghost_renderwithoutfog_ already take up 24 characters ).
If the only issue for backwards compatibility is going to be that the
names will be truncated, why not change this to 256 now? ( or to any
size, so that smaller object names only take up that space in the file )
I think that, as Blender gets used for more commercial usage, you'll see
that a lot of companies have work practices that require these longer
naming conventions.
