I was refering to the majority of them being the same dimensions. Most seem
to be setup with horizontal and vertical auto-align in mind.

I don't think it would be very nice either. I suppose the solution is to
keep with convention and have all panels the same size, or the size that
most panels are anyway. I'll just have to create multiple panels as the
panel contents grow.
