Just a follow up Sgefant and I did some debugging on this...
I'm guessing you just had some files messed up.
do a cvs update and a bootstrap and
rerun configure and everything should be peachy.

As far as the python thing goes.  Did you set up the python path for
your full version of python?  If not you need to do that.
