Fs-blend-devpak-cvs -- Blender DevPak for Microsft Flight Simulator

About Fs-blend-devpak-cvs Project Language:
English (USA)

There is a huge pool of dev's out there who are trapped in Gmax, and they really do need our help...

The idea of this project is to create a bundled package of Python scripts, for use in Blender, that make it easy to create objects for MSFS in Blender and export them to makeMDL (For FS9) and it's replacement (for FSX). Each module in and of itself really shouldn't be too difficult to create. The vision is that various standard objects such as fusalages, wings, propellers, rotors, etc. will all be creatable (is that a word??) through an interface that is similar to, but not nearly as complex as, MakeHuman. MakeHuman is far more complex than this project needs to be simply because there are far fewer curves and small details needed in an aircraft than there are in the human body.

Additionally, a customized Direct X exporter that will address the few non-standard methods for using multi-textures in Flight Sim, as well as export animations in types 0,1 and 2 rather than only type 4, needs to be developed. Looking to the future, a DX10 exporter will eventually be needed in addition to the DX9 one.

There's a lot to do but each piece in itself really isn't so daunting a task.

There are thousands out there who are using Gmax for this work today... trapped in a utility that can't render, can't make it's own bump maps and can't export to much other than .gmax without the aid of a custom compiled exporter. Let's face it, they despirately need Blender...
